“I love the rare feeling of people in a room being connected without having to share any ideology or belief system or style or walk of life or class or anything – where they can all just melt in to something magical,” says Charlie Mars. “I want to explore sonically what that is.”
Those keeping score will mark this as Charlie Mars’ fifth album, but upon first listen, Like A Bird, Like A Plane can best be described as a new debut.
Over 11 songs, Mars hits a groove that does not signify any specific genre but instead is hardwired to hearts and hips. This is an album that writhes through the headphones, which will ultimately be tossed in favor of a living room dance floor. Mars has sewn together tightly crafted songs with moods and melodies that pulse with sex, wonderment, and personal destruction – all themes that may clash on paper but in music, suggest mysteries that are organic to us all.

In their native South Africa, there’s no rock band bigger than The Parlotones. The Johannesburg-bred quartet have headlined the 20,000-seater Coca Cola Dome in their hometown in 2009, performed at the World Cup Kickoff Concert to an audience of a billion in 2010, and were handpicked by Coldplay to open the British band’s stadium shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2011. Also last year, The Parlotones staged an original rock theater production, Dragonflies and Astronauts, which was broadcast live around the world in 3D via DIRECTV and in 2D on Facebook. (The 3D broadcast was so well received Stateside that the satellite provider scheduled 100 re-airings, while more than half of the worldwide viewership on Facebook hailed from the U.S.) Dragonflies and Astronauts wove a narrative through the band’s catalog, including 16 songs that were Top 40 hits in South Africa.

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day dot Rusko was surrounded by music whether it be his families piano’s, guitars, banjo’s and saxophones…or in his later years the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.
After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through SUB DUB and a debut appearance from the “Digital Mystikz”, having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities.
Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko bought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive, quickly coining his own take on the genre that infected . His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit “Cockney Thug” has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. And has been remixed by Buraka Som sistema, Diplo, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.
Now part of the Mad Decent Camp with collaborations on the horizon with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Santigold, Trouble Andrew, Hot Chip and more…the future sure is looking bright. Currently setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists such as The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots and plenty more, Rusko is only going in one direction. Onwards, upwards and far beyond any other young producer could dream of.
Sebastian Ingrosso is that rare thing in the world of dance music: a musician who understands the world of melodies just as much as he understands the power of the kick drum.
Sebastian’s father owned two record labels, and from the tender age of 14 Ingrosso could be found in the studio producing music. His first official remix was released on Mega Records in 1999 and for over a decade Ingrosso has been releasing a steady stream of original tracks and remixes. In 2009, Sebastian, Dirty South and David Guetta produced ‘How Soon Is Now’ with Julia McKnight, which has become a modern day vocal house classic. Other tracks include ‘Leave The World behind’ on Axtone, ‘Umbrella’ on Data, ‘Laktos’ on Refune, an amazing re-edit of ‘Swimming Places’ from Julian Jabre on Defected, Royksopp and Hard Fi’s ‘Suburban Knights’, the searing remix of ‘Jack You’ with Steve Angello for Diddy and Felix which was approved by Sean Combs himself, MGMT’s ‘Kids’ and most recently Miike Snow’s ‘Silvia’. 2010 saw him co-write and co-produce ‘Cupid Boy’, one of the key electronic anthems on Kylie’s new Number 1 album.
As head of A & R for his label, Refune, Sebastian is constantly discovering and developing new talents such as Style of Eye, AN21, Max Vangeli, True Identity and his most recent signing, the exceptional Lune.
Sebastian Ingrosso’s achievements as a DJ are no less impressive than of those in the area of production. From his first gig in a small pizza restaurant in small town Sweden, 2009’s residency at world famous Sensation White saw him regularly performing to crowds of 25,000 all over the globe and 2010 has seen more smash gigs in Australia, USA and Brazil, not to mention countless countries throughout Europe. DJ Mag’s 2010 Top 100 poll placed Seb at Number 16, having already won highest new entry in the 2009 poll.
After the amazing achievements of the past few years, some may be forgiven for thinking the future could not get any better for Ingrosso but his ambition, not to mention talent, show no signs of abating. He has recently launched his new live visual concept and rumours are rife that he is producing the new album of a hot young female artist.
Ladies (and Gentlemen), Fans and Friends, You spoke and I listened…I am very proud and excited to tell you that Jordan Knight Live & Unfinished will be hitting hand picked cities across North America for an intimate evening of Music, Fun, and More! After the amazing NKOTBSB Arena Tour this past year, I feel truly blessed that I now have the time to get up close and personal with you, my fans, and sing these songs that mean so much to me! You’ve all played such a big part in making this album a success so I can’t think of a better way of saying THANK YOU, than to give you what you have asked for – Jordan Knight: Live & Unfinished!
Now put on those dancing shoes, grab a friend, and lets spend the night together! #ahhhhf*ckyeah
Jordan Knight has been famous for more than half his life. He was all of 14 when he joined New Kids On the Block and by 18 he had become a household name and global heartthrob as the group’s preternaturally handsome lead singer. For ten years he traveled the world with the famed boy band. Then, in 1994, when the band split up, Knight went on to enjoy a successful solo career. As a solo artist he’s achieved massive success on the dance, pop and AC charts, toured the world, has been nominated for MTV VMAs, appeared as a judge on American Juniors, a houseguest on The Surreal Life and also managed to find time to have a family and build a strong home life. In 2007 the New Kids reunited and Knight has been on the road again off and on ever since. Through all the ups and downs of a life in show business, Knight has managed to stay true to his innate sense of optimism. And now, as he prepares to release his first solo album in five years, Unfinished, the singer is feeling as giddy and excited about the future as he did when he was a teenager. “One of the reasons the album is titled Unfinished is I’ve been working on it for a year and a half,” he explains. “But it’s also about realizing that even when people countyou out, even when they say you’re finished, you’re not. As long as you’re alive, your life is never finished. You can always learn something new. You can always grow. You can always learn a new craft, a new art,you can always take what you do and breathe new life into it. It’s a hopeful message.”
Knight’s sense of optimism is an innate part of his character, but his business savvy has been earned thehard way through experience. “I’ve been in the music business a long time and what I’ve learned is thatthe only person who is going to watch your back is yourself,” Knight explains. “The person that’s going totake the best care of your project is yourself.” To that end, Knight isn’t taking any chances this timearound. He’s personally involved in every aspect of Unfinished, from writing and producing to partneringwith Marcus Siskind of Mass Appeal Entertainment to launch the record label, JK Music that will release it.“I’m trying to be a business man and a recording artists all at the same time,” Knight explains. Theentrepreneurial spirit runs deep in Knight, but at his core, he’s an artist, and his business plan for successbegins with great songs. “The songs have to be the driving force,” Knight explains. “And I know that Ihave collected some good songs for this album.”
He certainly has. The first single “Let’s Go Higher” is an infectious syncopated dance smash that feelsboth instantly familiar and truly innovative. “I had this cool track and I was looking for a writer to help mefinish the song,” Knight recalls. “I kept saying to myself, ‘Colby O’Donis, Colby O’Donis, Colby O’Donis.’”O’Donis, a young singer and songwriter who toured with the New Kids and made a name for himself bycollaborating with Lady Gaga on the vocals for “Just Dance.” Knight’s team called O’Donis and asked ifhe’d write something for Unfinished. “He said, ‘yeah I could do that for sure but I think I have a song thatJordan may like so I’m going to send that in the meantime,’” Knight recalls. “The song he sent was the firstsingle, ‘Let’s Go Higher.’”
The rest of the album came together with the same kind of casual ease: every time he found himself at acrossroads, Knight just looked to his instincts to guide him. “One More Night,” delivers a primal trancefeel but with the melancholic lyrical overtones of a classic ballad. “I wrote that track with Nasri Atweh(Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Vanessa Hudgens,)” the singer explains. “He kept saying that everything onthe radio has some hard element, that you’ve gotta have some kind of hip hop element. And then hestarted singing something pretty and I was like, no that’s what we need! You have to let go and let theflow and the emotion take you instead of always following trends because if you think too much with yourhead it’s not heartfelt.”
The album’s title track was another in what Knight describes as many “serendipitous” moments on thisrecord. He scheduled a writing session in Los Angeles with producer Mike Krompass (Nelly Furtado,Natasha Beddingfield, David Archuleta). As he was pulling into Krompass’ driveway he saw songwriterKasia Livingston (Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Pussycat Dolls) drive up as well. The two had workedtogether before (Livingston and Donnie Wahlberg wrote the New Kids’ 2008 tune “2 In The Morning”together) but he didn’t know she knew Krompass and he hadn’t anticipated getting to work with heragain. “The skies opened up,” he recalls. “I’m like oh my god I get to hang out with Kasia and write asong?” They were sitting around Krompass’ studio sketching out the song details. They ended up with amidtempo little chord progression, a nugget of an idea, really. “We were thinking we should use myfalsetto with a little bit of a yodel to make it a Jordan Knight signature song,” the singer recalls. “So wemessed around with some melodies and she said ‘Let me sleep on it.’ She came back the next day andsaid, ‘something happened and I think I nailed it.’ I listened once and said, ‘wow, yeah, you did nail it.’”Knight wrote his first Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit song “I’ll Be Your Everything” at the age of 17 for singerTommy Page. After selling over 80 million albums worldwide through the release of 6 group albums,Knight broke from NKOTB to embark on a successful solo career, which produced 4 Top 40 singles. Hiscritically acclaimed debut self‐titled album release in 1999 became RIAA certified gold and produced theBillboard Top 10 single, “Give It To You,” which sold over a million copies and was nominated for BestDance Video at the MTV Video Music Awards. With the 2008 release of The Block, NKOTB’s returned tothe charts once again; the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Pop Album chart and #2 on the overallTop 200 chart. The group promoted their new release through a sold‐out, 48‐city worldwide tour andfollowing the release of “Unfinished” on May 3rd, Knight will be returning to the road this summer withNKOTB for their highly anticipated co‐headlining 41‐city tour with the Backstreet Boys, which kicks off onJune 2nd in Uncasville, CT at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Jordan Knight’s path, from boy band leader to solo artist and back again, has been long and storied. Andas he looks forward to the next few months and years, its clear that Knight has a lot on his plate, but hisapproach to it all can be summed up with three key words: “bring it on.” “Life is always blossoming,”Knight explains. “New opportunities and new horizons are always there if you are just open to them. Withthis album, I’m not trying to make a statement, I just want people to enjoy these songs. I want them tofeel each song, whether they dance to it or it makes them sad or it makes them feel energized or inspiredor hopeful or angry. This album is about bringing out the emotion.” Knight has the benefit of approachingthis release with his signature combination of youthful optimism and hard‐earned confidence. “A lot ofpeople record 150 songs for an album,” Knight muses. “That’s great for them, but I’m like, well, my albumhas twelve songs on it and I’ve recorded … twelve songs. I’m on point with this one.”For more information visit www.jordanknight.com or contact:
There really is very little in the world of music and entertainment that Erick Morillo hasn’t turned his hand to. He’s a platinum-selling artist, he’s topped the charts worldwide as the producer behind Reel 2 Real’s hit “I Like To Move It” (used in both Madagascar movies, reaching millions of viewers worldwide and covered by Will I Am in Madagascar 2) and he’s been responsible for a bewildering array of dance-floor tracks including ‘Reach’, ‘Believe’, ‘Do What You Want’ and ‘I Feel Love’ – under pseudonyms including Ministers De La Funk, The Dronez (with Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero and Jose Nunez) and Li’l Mo Ying Yang. He’s remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to Basement Jaxx and continues to run the legendary Subliminal Records house music empire. On his debut album he collaborated with Puff Daddy and Boy George alike. And on his second solo artist album he’s setting his sights even higher: “We’ve already put the message out to Prince and 50 Cent,” says Morillo from his palatial home in Miami, where he has lived for the past four years. “The time is right. Dance music has been received really well, not only by people in clubs but also in the American mainstream. The success of Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas means that dance music is being played by MTV. The pendulum has swung back.”
For over a decade now, Erick has remained one of the most in-demand and instantly recognisable DJs in the world. From the instant success of his weekly ‘Sessions’ parties in New York, to hosting events like the annual road-blocking Subliminal Sessions parties in Miami at Winter Music Conference, to his coveted residency at Ministry of Sound (he’s still one of the only American DJs to ever hold one) and of course his now legendary Subliminal Sessions parties at Pacha, Ibiza, he’ll now be celebrating his 13th historic season at the club in 2010. His non-stop DJing schedule has seen him straddling the globe playing up to a whopping 30 gigs a month, particularly in the summer months where he’ll play from Rome and Mykonos to London and – but never far from his weekly Wednesday show at Pacha, Ibiza. He’s also become a familiar television personality through his appearances on MTV and MTV Ibiza two years in a row whilst starring in a seven part series for UK TV station, Channel 4, which followed him around the world to the biggest parties and was aired to millions of viewers.
Raised in Colombia, then New Jersey, Erick was weaned on a musical diet of Latin rhythms, reggae and hip-hop. He started DJing at the age of 11 and after securing himself DJ sets at several local gigs decided to take a studio engineering course at the local Centre of Media Arts… continue reading on http:// www.erickmorillo.com/

It’s official.

Sorry, Duck

After its board met Wednesday to discuss its options, [Americans Elect] released a statement Thursday indicating that it would not change its rules, effectively disqualifying all the candidates from participating in an online nominating convention that was scheduled next month.

The future of the organization, which raised $35 million and spent two years trying to create a new method for nominating a presidential ticket, remains unclear.

“As always, we thank everyone who has helped build this organization and are grateful for the work, efforts, and trust so many people have placed in Americans Elect,” the group said. “We are continuing the Americans Elect mission of creating more choice in our political system, giving candidates unaffiliated with the nominating process of either major party an authentic way to run for office and giving the American people a greater voice in our political process.”

Even as it poured $15 million into the laborious process of getting recognized as a party in each state, Americans Elect did not ignite grass-roots enthusiasm or attract prominent candidates, despite its backing by an array of top political and business leaders.

Maybe the reason for that is that actual grassroots enthusiasm generally starts with actual grassroots activists rallying behind a person or cause they believe in, and not some anonymous millionaires trying to buy it. I’m just saying.
