Join the YMCA in celebrating our country’s birth!

Posted by noemail@ymcahouston.org On June - 30 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

HOUSTON — On Monday, July 4th at noon members at every YMCA of Greater Houston facility will be invited to stop what they are doing, whether it’s swimming, playing a pick-up game of basketball or working out, and stand to say the Pledge of Allegiance. This is our way of honoring those who have and are still fighting for our freedom and a celebration of our country’s’ independence. Participation is voluntary.

Of course, you don’t have to be a member to take part in this patriotic celebration! The YMCA of Greater Houston is encouraging all Houstonians to consider participating as well. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing – take a minute at noon to honor our country and say the Pledge.

Members of the media are encouraged to stop by any of the following locations at noon on July 4th:

  • MD Anderson Family YMCA (705 Cavalcade Houston, TX 77009): The pool will be open to members and the general public after the community’s annual Lindale Park parade. The pledge of allegiance will led at the pool at noon by lifeguards.
  • Trotter Family YMCA (1331 Augusta Drive Houston, TX 77057): A BBQ at the Family Fun Pool will be held from 11 am to 2 pm, where staff will lead the members and guests in the pledge of allegiance at noon.

For more information about this patriotic event, visit http://www.ymcahouston.org/4th-of-july/. Each YMCA around Houston is offering special activities related to the holiday – to find the YMCA nearest you visit www.ymcahousotn.org or call 713-659-5566 Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

Flash mob hitting Houston’s west side Thursday night

Posted by Houston.BloggersPub On June - 30 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

HairsprayIf you are at Memorial City Mall or the City Center in the Houston-area Thursday night and see around 100 people dancing to the song “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” don’t worry, it’s just a flash mob.

Turns out the Country Playhouse has more than 100 volunteers from the community participating in this ‘impromptu’ event to promote Hairspray, which just so happens to be the next production at the Country Playhouse.

I’m told the flash mob will perform three times. Twice Thursday night: 7pm at Memorial City Mall (near the skating rink) and 8pm at City Center (on the green, in the front of Yardhouse and Ruggles). The third time will be on stage at the Country Playhouse before the production of Hairspray on July 15th.

Review of Claws & Paws Vet Hospital Pc, Pearland

Our dogs have been going to Claws and Paws since we moved here 14 years ago. They are wonderful with my “babies”. I never feel cheated or taken advantage of. The staff are very friendly and all the vets have given my pets excellent care. I highly recommend this place.
