Earlier today I mentioned KHOU 11 has adopted a new slogan and logo, last week KPRC 2 introduced new graphics and now another Houston station is getting a graphical makeover.

Starting today, KIAH 39 is going back to the CW39 branding with a new look.

“In recent months we identified ourselves as ‘Channel 39,’” Theressa Virgil, Director of I & I for KIAH-TV told the mikemcguff.com blog. “Now we are embracing our affiliation with The CW network while acknowledging our home base, so we are now ‘CW39 – Real Houston.’”

Virgil tells me the “CW39 – Real Houston” bug will be attached to the station’s daily programming. With the new branding also comes the station’s new IDs and promos (WATCH ABOVE VIDEO).

KIAH 39 also synced its new 39online.com website to the new on-air look.

Which other Houston station is about to make aesthetic changes? If I were a betting man, I’d start a pool!

KHOU 11 feedback on new slogan/logo plus anchor IDs

Posted by Houston.BloggersPub On March - 31 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

I’ve received a lot of comments about the new KHOU 11 slogan and logo. One question that kept coming up concerned the station’s longtime slogan “The Spirit of Texas.” So is that phrase out?

Lisa Shumate, the KHOU 11 Director of Programming and Marketing, clues us in on that and goes into detail about the station’s thinking for developing the new image.

“‘KHOU Stands for Houston’ emphasizes the connection between our call letters and our television market,” Shumate told the mikemcguff.com blog. “We will now refer to the station as ‘KHOU 11.’
The logo redesign includes a two color treatment that calls attention to “HOU” and includes the Texas star. We will no longer be using ‘The Spirit of Texas.’”

Shumate adds the feedback on the new campaign has been overwhelmingly positive.

You might remember that KHOU most recently branded itself as Channel 11 or 11 News.

Also while you’re here, enjoy some of the new KHOU 11 anchor IDs:

XFINITY finally ‘replaces’ Comcast on my cable box

Posted by Houston.BloggersPub On March - 30 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The other night I fell asleep on the couch watching TV after a grueling blogging session. Something woke me up. The TV was on, but the cable box was off. Then the box turned back on and some crazy numbers were flashing on the box’s screen.

Is this a dream? Are the Mayan prophecies taking place a year early? Is my cable possessed? Did I not pay the bill?

All of those scenarios stormed through my head, but then I just realized I was getting my promised XFINITY upgrade.

I’ve blogged about the XFINITY Houston upgrade earlier this year. Many TV viewers in the Bayou City area already have it. In case you are an XFINITY ‘late bloomer’ like myself, here are some screenshots I grabbed for you.

The guide display is obviously different and very blue. As you can see there is an additional way to display an individual channel’s programming. You get that screen by pressing guide twice. Guide is no longer an exit button, you really have to use the ‘exit’ button below it.

The On Demand screen is way better than the previous version. The old screen was not very ‘elegant’ as an MBA candidate might say.

The good news is that all of the previously recorded shows on my DVR are still there. The only question is how do you dump those shows to DVD now? “Copy to VCR” was a feature on the old Comcast system…not seeing that now. I’ve got some of my old KIAH 39 News stories on there and they need to be archived. Oh…that and the entire season of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami.
